It's amazing what you can learn from a sheep—
while having good, old-fashioned fun!

Each action-packed day is a balance of 5 components: a lesson in agricultural science, hands-on fun with sheep, farm games, a wool craft, and swimming:

So...what DO kids do all day in Sheep Camp?

Animal and Plant Science:
Using the livestock and pastures as living classrooms,  we learn about  nutrition, breeds, health care, ruminant (4-stomach) physiology, products from sheep, sheep psychology,  grazing biology,  composting, and other topics related to the natural world.

Hands-on work with sheep:
Each child has his/her own lamb for the week,  on which to practice halter training, health care, washing, catching, tipping, and other skills.  The sheep also takes part in games and demonstrations.

Farm games and activities:
What's a summer day without Lamb Races, Sheep Olympics,  Hide-'N-Go Sheep, Obstacle Courses, Shepherd Charades, and other
surprises?

Wool Crafts:
Forget the paper and glue—we use wool! Each day introduces a new fiber art:  felting, spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, and dyeing.  We explore the unique properties of wool from different breeds of sheep.

Swimming:
We top off the day with a swim in the farm’s spring-fed private pond.

Beyond Sheep
The sheep share the farm with cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and a horse.  Each day we will spotlight one species of livestock, and the kids will get a true picture of life on a diversified family farm.

WHY WE LOVE SHEEP CAMP

We are not a big, commercialized camp facility.  We are a farming family who feels lucky to be raising our kids on a farm, and welcomes the chance to give others a taste of the farming lifestyle-- if only for a week.  Who knows—if the next generation grows up with a yearning for open land, perhaps more farmland will be saved from developers. Camp Director  Caroline Owens (AKA Mom) is a former Vocational Agriculture teacher who loves turning the farm into a classroom during summer camp.
And so, we invite small groups of children into our lives to share our love of the land, enjoy good old-fashioned non-electronic fun, and learn by doing. We limit the group size to 12, to keep things personal and fun.
