Adopt-A-Sheep
for Families and Individuals

Follow the life of your adopted sheep through the seasons while getting a behind-the-scenes look at life on a sustainable, grass-based farm.  If you live close by, there will be seasonal visits where you learn abut sheep care and participate in farm activities.  If you live too far to visit regularly, no problem--you’ll have what we call a Remote Adoption. Your communication will be through mail and email, and you’ll be welcome to visit when you can. We have Adoptive families in 11 states plus Canada!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How long is the Adoption Period? What does the program cost?
A.
The Adoption Period is 1 year. The program fee is $125 USD for U.S. addresses and $160 CAD for Canadian addresses (reflects international shipping costs). Fee is paid at the beginning of the program.

Q. When does the program begin?
A.
There are 3 sign-up periods--Fall (great for Xmas presents!), Summer, and Spring (just in time for lambing!). Both go for a full year.

Q. What kind of sheep am I adopting?
A.
A Coopworth brood ewe (female) who stays in the flock year after year to produce lambs. These are lovely wool producers.

Q. Do I have to live within driving distance?
A.
No. The seasonal visits are a bonus, not a necessity.  Our correspondence will make you feel like you’re right here on the farm, and we’ll send your fleece through the mail.

Q. Can I share my sheep with a friend?
A.
Yes, as long as there is one designated contact person with whom we communicate.

Q. What if...what if my sheep dies?
A.
Should your sheep suffer an unexpected loss of life, we’ll either refund your fee prorated to the nearest month, or offer you a swap should another sheep be available.

Q. How do you organize the seasonal visits?
A.
We set aside a block of time and notify our Adoptive Families  by email.

Q. What if I want my fleece processed, not raw?
A.
The fleece in its raw (straight off the sheep) state is included in the Adoption.  If you want it as roving, quilt batting, yarn, etc, we would be happy to coordinate this.  You would be responsible for the processing charges.
